KUPPET National Chairman, Omboko Milemba, experienced a rescue operation as angry secondary school teachers in Homa Bay County confronted him for his support of the Finance Bill 2023 in the National Assembly.
On Sunday evening, the Member of Parliament for the Emuhaya Constituency visited Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay town to attend a sports event for secondary school teachers.
Teachers were quite thrilled about the event, as they welcomed him together with Akelo Misori, the union’s secretary general, and the other KUPPET officials with open arms.
About four minutes later, the moderator called on Milemba to give the opening remarks before the match starts. Teachers began booing when Milemba addressed them, explaining that he had voted “yes” on the Finance Bill.
Milemba persisted through the chaos to explain the Finance Bill 2023’s importance to the future of the country.
In spite of his assurances, teachers dismissed him, accusing him of abandoning their interests by voting for the contentious bill. The situation escalated for more than 15 minutes until Misori took the stage to reprimand the teachers for their inappropriate behavior.
Some of the teachers pelted Milemba with stones, as he left the platform. One of Milemba’s bodyguards pulled out two firearms and aimed them at the teachers, stopping them from throwing stones in an effort to defend the legislator .
