Education CS On Wednesday, Ezekiel Machogu will appear before the Senate regarding the tragedy that struck Mukumu Girls High School.
Machogu will explain measures the Ministry of Education has made to fix Mukumu Girls High School in Kakamega County so that classes can resume.
On April 3, 2023, three pupils died after an outbreak of diarrhea, prompting the school to close for three weeks.
The CS will also speak about the Ministry’s help to the bereaved.
In addition, he will reveal whether or not the government plans to pay families who have been affected by the suspected contamination.
Throughout the outbreak, more than 124 students were treated for what was likely food and water poisoning at Kakamega County General Hospital.
Student food had been contaminated with human feces, according to Director General of Health Patrick Amoth.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, “the general public should be aware that this disease is likely to be a mixture of E. coli and Salmonella typhi,” which can develop when water supplies become tainted.
Following the incident, the CS named Jane Mmbone the school head, and transferred Mukumu Girl’s Principal, Frida Ndolo.
The CS also disbanded the school’s management board, leaving three students and a teacher dead.
