The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has pledged to work with Safaricom in curbing the rampant fraud cases, as part of its efforts to strengthen the partnership.
Mr. Mohamed Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations, made this announcement on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, during a visit by a team of top administrators from Safaricom to the DCI headquarters.
During the meeting, the DCI chief assured the delegation, led by Mr. James Kiama, the head of Route to Customer Safaricom PLC, of the Directorate’s commitment to working closely with the mobile service provider, particularly in investigating fraud crimes perpetrated over its mobile phone network.
“We are adopting various strategies, such as strengthening our information sharing platforms, including social media, to raise awareness and educate the public about crimes committed through mobile phone networks and how to detect or avoid them.” Amin stated.
“In line with this, Safaricom has supported the Directorate in printing the 7th edition of the quarterly DCI magazine, which we received at DCI headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.” He further added.
Stakeholders and partners including KCB, Equity Bank, and DTB Bank, among others, facilitated the printing of the publication, which is provided free of charge.
The meeting was attended by DCI Deputy Director Ireri Kamwende and Director of Liaison & Communication Tony Munga.
