The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced scholarships targeting students who scored D- and below in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In a notice released on Tuesday, August 15, the agency sought students under the Bagamoyo-Horohoro/Lungalunga -Malindi and Mombasa-Mariakani Highway roads project.
“The Training targets youths from counties of Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi where the projects traverse.”
“The training aims at equipping vulnerable youth within the project areas with skills for gainful work and social sustainability,” read the notice in part.
KeNHA has earmarked five technical training colleges through which the students will receive training. They are Christian Industrial Training Center (CITC), Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, both in Mombasa, Mtongwe Vocational Training Center (Kwale ), Mkwajuni Vocational Training Center, and Mdzongoloni Vocational Training Center, both in Kilifi county.
Courses offered include Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, Motor Vehicle mechanics, Hairdressing, Basic Tailoring, Fashion Design, Masonry, Carpentry among others.
Applicants are required to be aged between 18 and 35 years with no formal education at the Diploma level.
They are also expected to be able to read and write and live in informal settlements within the specified counties.
The scholarship will cater for tuition fees, boarding fees, and a stipend for the students.

Interested candidates can download the application forms from KeNHA website and fill before dropping them at designated offices.
“Applications shall be received through the offices of the County Commissioners Mombasa ,Kilifi and Kwale or KeNHA Regional offices in Mombasa,” read the notice.
Applications will be evaluated against key indicators followed by a physical presentation/vetting interview of applicants who meet the basic criteria.
Scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of a comparative evaluation of the applications submitted, of the requirements met and of the criteria relating to the merit established in association with other government agencies.
The Application deadline is slated for Friday 1st September 2023 at 5Pm .
