The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced applications for enrollment at the Open University of Kenya (OUK), commencing on August 28.
KUCCPS CEO Mercy Wahome announced the opening of the application portal for individuals interested in joining OUK to apply.
As per KUCCPS, the tuition fee for undergraduate degree programs at OUK is set at Ksh105,000, except for the Bachelor of Technology Education, which incurs an annual cost of Ksh115,000 for full-time study.
The cost of postgraduate diploma programs is Ksh110,000 for one academic year.
Wahome elaborated that the stated annual tuition cost considers a 15% discount that the Government negotiated with universities under the new higher education funding model.
At OUK, students can pay for and pursue individual course units at a rate of Ksh10,000 per unit. This choice is open to both Bachelor’s degree and postgraduate diploma programs available at the university.
For international students outside of East Africa, an additional fee of 10% is applicable for all programs or course units.
KUCCPS has outlined the minimum entry requirements for Bachelor’s degree programs, which include a mean grade of C+ and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
Other qualifications such as diplomas, professional certifications, KCSE certificates or equivalents, and foundation or bridging course certificates are also considered.
Candidates possessing a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with specific grade criteria or a recognized bachelor’s degree are also eligible for application.
“The applications admissible at the KUCCPS portal will be free of charge and without any deadline,” Wahome said.
The application fee waiver is attributed to the distinctive learning approach of the Open University and its flexible modular program design, enabling students to learn at their own pace and convenience.
Wahome further highlighted that Bachelor’s degree applicants are eligible for government scholarships and loans in accordance with the new funding model criteria.
Applicants who have sat for KCSE examinations from 1989 to the present can apply directly through the KUCCPS portal.
For those with international or non-KCSE qualifications, the placement agency and OUK are set to facilitate the submission of application documents.
