Mercy Tarus, the Uasin Gishu graduate who confronted Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Senator Jackson Mandago regarding the failed student airlift program, has outlined specific conditions to Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina before considering a job in his office.
Tarus decisively declined Ledama’s job offer, instead proposing that the legislator introduce a Senate Bill to investigate the scholarship debacle.
This came after Senator Ledama had sought an audience with Tarus, which would result in her working for him.
“Mercy Tarus I would like you to work for me… speak your heart …the future belongs to candid youth! Let’s talk!” He wrote
Social media users inundated the senator’s online profile, with some applauding the gesture while others criticized the move, preceding Tarus’ eventual response.
The now famous Tarus politely conveyed her disinterest in the job offer, urging Ledama instead to initiate a legislative proposal to resolve the scholarship controversy and ensure full reimbursements for all affected parties.
“Mr Ledama, before we can further this conversation, Talk to your fellow Senators to bring the Uasin Gishu County Government to book and compel them to refund rightfully hard-earned money to the citizens of Kenya. Maybe then, we can talk. Otherwise, I have nothing more to say,” she stated.
She explicitly mentioned that her current priority is to secure refunds for herself and her fellow victims.
“Maybe then, we can work on the next project because my work will be done here. Otherwise, I cannot commit myself to other duties.” she added.
