The Ministry of Health (MoH) has begun issuing posting letters, to more than 2,000 clinical interns spread across the country .
The interns whose posting has been delayed since last year December are expected to receive letters from the ministry as from Thursday June 23,2023. This comes after a series of meetings between union officials and ministry leadership
“A total of 2,516 interns (BSC 506, DIP 1,930) will start picking their letters for their internships from June 22, 2023. This means that no pre-intern shall remain hanging.” Kenya Union of Clinical Officers Secretary General George Gibore announced.
The interns are expected to report to their respective work stations of internship on July 1.
In a recent meeting, PS Public Health and Standards Mary Muthoni committed to ensuring the affected interns start receiving their posting letters from June 16.
The union had issued an ultimatum to the ministry and threatened mass action if their demands were not met.
The release of posting letters to the clinical interns marks the end of the long wait and the prolonged tussle between the union and the ministry over the delayed posting of interns.
Posting clinical officers on internship is a legal provision and a prerequisite for them to obtain a license to practice.
