43 Year-Old Joseph Kariuki, a Catholic priest based at the archdiocese of Nairobi has passed away at Monalisa hotel in Murang’a where he had reportedly checked in with a woman believed to be his girlfriend.
According to reports, Joseph Kariuki had accompanied a lady to the hotel on July 7, where they had planned to spend the night.
Law enforcement authorities state that the deceased, who was associated with St. Peter’s Parish in Ruai and also worked as a farmer in the Mang’u area, arrived at the hotel with the woman, who is said to be his girlfriend and a colleague from their workplace in Ruai.
The following morning (Saturday 8th) at approximately 8 am, the priest’s girlfriend, identified as Ruth Nduhi, aged 32 and a resident of Ruai, informed the hotel management that her boyfriend was experiencing dizziness and losing consciousness.
She suggested transferring him to a hospital for medical attention.
With the use of the priest’s black Toyota Harrier, Ruth Nduhi, accompanied by two hotel staff members, hurriedly transported him to Kenol Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Upon notification, the Murang’a County Commander, Kainga Mathiu, dispatched police officers to the scene. They discovered the body in the back seat of the car, partially covered by the hotel bedsheets, with white foam coming from the mouth and nose.
“The police secured the area and relocated the body to Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi, accompanied by police personnel, pending an autopsy and further investigation,” stated the County Police Commander.
