Azimio la Umoja party leader Raila Odinga has launched a signature collection initiative known as Tumechoka Citizens to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.
During a speech at the Stephen Kalonzo Centre in Nairobi, Raila called on all Kenyans to add their signatures on tumechoka.com in solidarity against Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Raila expressed his belief that Ruto’s administration had ignored the concerns raised regarding the Finance Act of 2023 and had deviated from the will of the people.
“Having read and understood the intention of the promoters of this initiative, I hereby Support the Citizens’ initiative to remove from office Mr. William Ruto as President and Mr. Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” the website pleads.
The signature collection drive will be launched in all 47 counties, with Kenyans encouraged to participate in large numbers to express their dissatisfaction with the current regime.
Raila emphasized that it was the responsibility of the people to safeguard their future and reject unnecessary tax burdens. He stated, “The signatures will demonstrate that Raila is not voicing his concerns alone, but is joined by millions of people walking together with him.”
In contrast to the information on the website, Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya Party, clarified that the signatures were not primarily intended to impeach President Ruto, but rather to signify defiance against his administration and compel him to listen to the people.
Karua explained that the signature collection provided a platform for Kenyans to express their grievances and disappointments, contrary to the propaganda being circulated.
