A lively reception, complete with song and dance, marked the enthusiastic welcome for the newly appointed Chief Principal of Sironga Girls High School, Jane Nyanumba on Monday afternoon.
Nyanumba takes over from Eva Odhiambo, who was transferred by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to Kisumu Girls High School in Kisumu county.
Eva Odhiambo, in turn, experienced a similar joyous reception at her new post, where tears of happiness flowed as students overwhelmed her with their warm welcome.
Ms. Eve Odhiambo is taking over from Margaret Mechumo at Kisumu girls.
Margaret Mechumo, assumes the role of the new principal at Chwele Girls High School in Bungoma.
Jane Nyanumba, the incoming principal at Sironga, has served as the principal of Tombe Girls since 2015, overseeing continuous improvement at the school.
The mean score under her leadership in the 2023 KCSE was 7.1, with 167 out of 248 registered candidates achieving a university entry grade. The performance represented a decline from the 9.2 mean score recorded in the 2022 KCSE exams.
Her former station’s performance stands in contrast to the results at her current station, where an improvement was observed, with an 8.02 mean score in the same exam—an increase from 7.2 the previous year.
Mrs Nyanumba faces the challenge of maintaining high-quality academic standards, particularly considering that seven girls achieved an A- mean grade, and a total of 461 students secured entrance to university.
