The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a total of 1098 internship vacancies for unemployed and registered teachers to apply for Junior secondary school (JSS) teaching vacancies
In an advert issued on Tuesday ,December 12, the commission is seeking to engage successful applicants on one (1) year programme meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering the teaching service
“The vacancies are spread across Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Tana-River, Marsabit, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Turkana, Murang’a, Nyeri, Samburu, Isiolo, and Kajiado counties.” TSC stated
The Commission’s Recruitment Guidelines for the recruitment of Teacher Interns 2023/2024 Financial Year (Post Primary Institutions) shall apply.
The internship period will be for 12 months for the financial year 2023/2024.
“The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching and exposure to practical teaching experience.” the advert read in part.
The intern teachers will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Kshs. 20,000/-. The stipend will be paid subject to statutory deductions, where applicable.
Basic requirements for JSS interns
- One must be a Kenyan citizen.
- One must be a holder of at least a Diploma in Education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KSCE) or its equivalent.
- One must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.
Applicants who were previously employed by the Teachers Service Commission on permanent and pensionable and those who have served under TSC internship programme are not eligible.
Some of the required documents include copies of the Teacher Registration Certificate from the TSC online portal, the National Identity Card or passport, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card, the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN), and two coloured passport-size photos.
How to Apply
Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit their applications online through the Commission’s website, under “Careers” or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke not later than 15th December, 2023.
An applicant is allowed to apply in two schools where appropriate vacancies have been declared.
All successful candidates will be required to have Personal Accident Insurance to cover personal risks during the internship period.
TSC emphasized that the recruitment process was free and fair, warning the applicants against falling into the traps of fraudulent individuals.
“Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office or Teachers Service Commission headquarters or the nearest police station,” TSC added.
