The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has extended the deadline for application of 36,000 promotional vacancies to 15th September 2023 from Friday September 2023.
In a statement issued on Friday, the commission was forced to extend the deadline to allow all eligible teachers to submit their documents.
The promotions will encompass nine different grade levels and be spread across primary and secondary schools and teacher-training institutions.
There are 12,716 positions available for senior master roles, while 10,819 teachers will advance to senior teacher positions in traditional primary schools.
The commission has set aside 700 openings are for senior teachers in special needs institutions and 216 positions for Grade C4 senior lecturers in teacher-training colleges.
TSC also advertised 108 senior principal positions and 34 chief principal positions. Eligible and Interested candidates were asked to submit their applications through the TSC portal.
The announcement came just a week after the TSC promoted 14,000 teachers awaiting promotions since the previous fiscal year.
In the 2023-2024 budget, there has been a substantial increase in funding allocated to the education sector, reaching a historic milestone. Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u proposed a budget allocation of KSh 628.6 billion for the education sector.
Of this proposed budget, KSh 12.5 billion is se to cater for free primary education. At the same time, KSh 65.4 billion will support free day secondary school education, encompassing insurance and National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) coverage for secondary school students.
