The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has commenced promotion interviews for teachers in 276 sub-counties across the country.
The Commission had initially halted the exercise due to the impacts of El Niño rains but has now allowed it to proceed in areas less affected.
The objective of these promotion interviews is to fill 36,505 vacancies for primary and secondary school promotions, as advertised in September.
Interviews for primary school teachers in job groups C1 to C4 are scheduled to take place from December 4th to 15th, 2023, in various sub-counties.
Interviews in areas deemed unsafe due to ongoing rains have been postponed until a later date. Sub-counties excluded from the exercise include Makueni, Garissa, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties.
On Monday , December 4 C1 teachers will begin interviews, vying for 10,819 slots for Senior Teacher II (C2) positions in regular schools and 700 slots for special schools.
More than 150,000 primary and secondary school teachers were shortlisted and issued interview letters to compete for the 36,505 vacancies.
Secondary school teacher interviews are scheduled for next year, running from January 3rd to 16th, 2024.
C2 teachers will vie for 3,040 slots for Senior Teacher I (C3) positions in regular primary schools and 346 slots for special schools.
C3 teachers will compete for 1,930 slots for Deputy Headteacher II (C4) positions in regular primary schools.
Deputy Headteachers in C4 will strive to fill 1,049 Headteacher positions in C5 for regular primary schools and 30 for special schools.
