The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has agreed to deploy new teachers to St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Kakamega County.
The new move follows a meeting between the teachers’ employer and Members of Parliament from Western Kenya.
The MPs issued a sincere apology for the forceful removal of the school’s principal, which prompted TSC to transfer all teachers from the institution.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya led the reconciliation efforts during a meeting at the TSC’s headquarters in Upper Hill, Nairobi, accompanied by legislators from the region.
“The entire leadership of Kakamega County including the area MP Salasya have unreservedly tendered their apology to the Principal and all teachers in the Republic, the TSC and the people of Kenya over the unfortunate incident that occurred at St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School,” stated Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia announced that the commission would redeploy teachers to the school, contingent upon the school’s commitment to ensuring safety and a peaceful environment for the teaching staff.
Macharia expressed satisfaction with the local leaders’ decision to seek a resolution, stating, “We are, therefore, happy that the local leaders considered it wise to come and meet with us today with as solution.”
“As a result of our deliberations, I wish to announce that the commission will post 17 trained and registered teachers to the school to ensure that normal teaching and learning activities resume with immediate effect,” she stated.
In contrast, Soy MP David Kiplagat took a different approach, opting to employ 10 teachers at St. Martin Secondary School. This decision came after the TSC transferred 7 teachers from the school following a similar incident where parents forcefully ejected the principal due to poor results in last year’s KCSE exams.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu recently condemned TSC for withdrawing teachers from Isongo Secondary School emphasizing that all school-related decisions should prioritize the well-being of the child.
