The enrollment of over 880,000 students who took the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam in 2022 has raised concerns regarding delays in the opening of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) course application portal.
There are several reasons why KUCCPS has not opened it’s portal, They include;-
- The scores of KCSE 2022 students, which were obtained from the database of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), have not yet been submitted to the database of the KUCCPS.
- Because of the country’s high rate of inflation and the difficult economic situation, there are worries that public and private universities and colleges may not have sufficient resources to financially support their students.
- There has been some speculation that the KUCCPS, through the CUE, may raise the minimum KCSE entrance requirements for University admission .
Dr. Wahome an education expert suggests that the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) should collaborate to ensure all schools are ready to admit new students.
The KUCCPS Course application portal is expected to be opened in late May or early June 2023, allowing ample time for students to choose their courses and make revisions as required, provided the possible causes of the delay are addressed to ensure a smooth and efficient enrollment process.
KUCCPS Statement on Cut-Off Points
KUCCPS recently clarified that it has not raised the minimum grade required for university admission from C+ to B.
There were rumors that the ‘new guidelines’ set the minimum score for male students to enter university at 62, while the minimum score for ladies has been set at 61.
A Facebook user originally published the fabrication, claiming the it came from the organization responsible for the placement of University students .
The placement agency , however, strongly refuted the allegations via its official Twitter account, where it was identified as a fake information .
